Problems the Wildfire Mitigation Alliance will addresses through collaboration

We need a proactive strategy and approach to Wildfire mitigation.

We currently act reactively with little prevention across Canada.

Each year, Fire departments and firefighters valiantly try to keep up with new wildfires, that regularly multiply, necessitating more and more resources.

This often has a snowball effect, as there will never be enough resources to combat these huge wildfires, if they are given the chance to grow to out-of-control.

  • Costs are growing unsustainably for all stakeholders, from increasing costs for evacuations, firefighting, business and life interruptions and rebuilding.
  • Insurance RISK/COSTS are increasing
  • Systems and buildings are not built with prevention, resistance and resilience in mind
  • Time is limited and budgets are short to shift to proactive preventative measures, that will ultimately save money in the long-run with less wildfires burning out of control.
  • There is a shortage of resources (firefighters, emergency responders and equipment) to respond to wildfires. Canada needs more resources to attack wildfires faster and earlier before they rage out of control.
  • Too many groups still operate in silos. A more Collaboration is required across the many stakeholder groups - a Whole-of-Society Approach
